Summary: Dr. Jen McClure, Director of Elementary Education, will introduce Siegrist Elementary Coach; Sara Stapleton. On October 7th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Siegrist will be hosting their first community bike ride. In the spring, Siegrist received a grant from Platte County Parks and Recreation. With the grant money our school was able to purchase a fleet of bikes (40 in total), a large trailer to house the bikes, the curriculum and other accessories needed for the program in partnership with KC Bike Walk. Part of the grant included an agreement that the school would offer the students, families and community a day to borrow and try out the bikes. September 11th during our first PLD day, all of the elementary PE coaches received training from KC Bike Walk on the bike program curriculum, how to set up and use different tracks/courses, maintenance of the bikes and how to properly load and unload the trailer. Siegrist started their bike lessons September 19th for 3rd-5th grade and will be finished on October 4th just in time for Bike Day on Oct. 7th. Pirate Rock sponsors, Platte City and Platte County Police Departments have been invited to join us in creating a fun and safe event. A fun bike trail has been created starting at the Platte City Middle School's bus parking lot and it makes its way throughout the district's campus parking lots. Any community members needing to borrow a bike or helmet are encouraged to reserve one on our link as we only have 40. We would love to see School Board Members and other PCR-3 staff and families come join us.
